At New Park Community Centre, we're passionate about creating opportunities that bring people together, support wellbeing and encourage people to discover new interests and talents.

This summer, we're delighted to welcome artist and educator Linda Hardwick for a special one-day Art Confidence oil painting workshop on Saturday 18 July.

From Blank Canvas to Creative Confidence: Meet the Artist Bringing a Unique Oil Painting Workshop to New Park

The workshop follows the success of a previous event run by Linda, which sold out in just two days, and offers complete beginners the chance to explore oil painting in a relaxed, supportive and encouraging environment.

Originally from Ireland and now based in West Sussex, Linda studied Fine Art before spending 13 years teaching art in secondary schools and sixth forms. Since leaving education in 2020, she has built a successful career as a freelance artist educator, teaching students from around the world both online and in person.

"I love teaching people of all ages and abilities," says Linda. "My online classes bring together students from across the globe. Some join before they go to bed, while others are just starting their day. It's a wonderful reminder of how creativity can connect people, wherever they are."

Alongside her online teaching, Linda also delivers workshops for businesses and organisations, using creativity to encourage confidence, communication and wellbeing. It was through her teaching that she recognised a common challenge among many adults.

"So many people tell me they've always wanted to try painting but don't feel confident enough to get started," she explains. "That's why I created these Art Confidence workshops. They're designed to make painting accessible, enjoyable and achievable, regardless of experience."

Participants are guided step by step through the entire process, from a blank canvas to a finished painting they can proudly take home at the end of the day.

"People are often surprised by what they can achieve with a little guidance and encouragement," says Linda. "The workshop isn't about being perfect. It's about enjoying the process, learning new skills and building confidence along the way."

At New Park, we know creative activities can offer far more than the opportunity to learn a new hobby. They can help people relax, connect with others, improve confidence and take time out from the pressures of everyday life.

Allison McDonald-Hughes, Centre Manager at New Park Community Centre, said: "At New Park, we're committed to supporting community wellbeing and creating opportunities for people to come together through shared experiences. We are delighted to welcome Linda and to provide an affordable, accessible space where people can explore their creativity, learn new skills and connect with others. Workshops such as this reflect our wider mission of supporting confidence, community connection and wellbeing."

The workshop takes place from 12pm to 5.30pm and includes everything participants need, from professional oil paints and brushes to aprons, refreshments and individual guidance throughout the day.

By the end of the session, everyone will leave with their own completed oil painting and, hopefully, the confidence to continue their creative journey.
