Stanza Poets Headline Inspiring Open Mic Night in Chichester
Poetry takes centre stage this March as a collective of acclaimed Sussex writers bring their voices to Chichester for a special Open Mic evening.
Taking place at the New Park Centre, the event will feature headline readings from members of the local Stanza group, part of the Poetry Society’s nationwide network. Known for their collaborative approach, Stanza poets meet regularly to share and refine new work - resulting in writing that is both technically accomplished and deeply personal.
This event also celebrates the launch of Liminal, a new anthology showcasing the group’s rich diversity of style, voice and subject matter. Audiences can expect everything from lyrical reflections to bold, contemporary perspectives.
Among the featured poets are Chris Hardy, Pratibha Castle, Mel Penycate, Camilla Lambert, Yvonne Baker, Claudia Court, Adele Phillips, Shirley Redpath, Alan Bush and Barry Smith; each bringing a unique voice and impressive publishing credentials.
But the evening isn’t just for established writers. True to the spirit of Open Mic, the second half invites local poets to step forward and share their own work. Whether experienced or completely new, participants are welcomed into a supportive and encouraging environment that has become a hallmark of Chichester’s poetry scene.
Organiser Barry Smith describes the event as “a stimulating evening bringing great new poetry to the city,” with audiences consistently praising both the quality of the performances and the warmth of the atmosphere.
