Community Spirit Shines Through Rainy Weather At New Park Christmas Concert
Despite torrential rain and challenging travel conditions, the warmth of community spirit was on full display at New Park Community Centre as residents gathered for a festive Christmas concert in support of the New Park “RAISE THE ROOF” campaign.
Undeterred by the conditions, a wonderful audience turned out to watch and enthusiastically join in with the Chichester Community Choir, who were hosting the fundraising event. The evening offered a joyful programme of traditional Christmas carols alongside festive favourites, creating a truly uplifting atmosphere.
The concert was supported by entry and refreshments by donation, with festive treats available throughout the evening. A highlight was the exceptional raffle, made possible by the generosity of local Chichester businesses. Prizes were donated by Stephen Lawrence Ladieswear, Dartagnan, Junction Jungle, The Nags Head, Montezumas, Jane Bulbeck, Miso Asia, Art for All and Cavavin, helping to significantly boost funds raised on the night.
Allison McDonald-Hughes, Manager of New Park Community Centre said: “We were completely blown away by the generosity shown by local businesses and our community. Their support created a fantastic raffle, which made a real difference to the fundraising on the evening. For people to come out in such awful weather truly meant the world to us.”
The Christmas atmosphere reached its peak when the choir stepped down to sing among the audience, creating a magical communal singalong. The evening concluded with a moving rendition of “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas”, with choir and audience united in song.
Choir Master, Caroline Lawrence, from Chichester Community Choir added: “We really wanted to do this for New Park Community Centre. It’s such a key place for supporting the arts and the wider community, right in the heart of Chichester, and we’re delighted to be able to support the Raise the Roof campaign.”
