Taking place for one day only, this engaging 90-minute walk will explore the hidden stories behind Chichester’s lost theatres, cinemas and concert halls, venues that once sat at the heart of the city’s social and cultural life but have long since disappeared from the streetscape.
From grand picture houses and beloved music venues to forgotten performance spaces, participants will discover how entertainment evolved across generations and shaped the lives of local people. Along the route, Alan Green will bring these vanished landmarks back to life through historical insight, local anecdotes and remarkable stories of the characters, performers and communities connected to them.
Whether you are passionate about local history, architecture, theatre, film or simply curious about seeing Chichester through a different lens, this unique Heritage Open Days event offers a rare opportunity to uncover the city’s rich cultural heritage.
The walk will start and end at the Café Bar at The New Park Centre where participants can enjoy refreshments before and after the event and make use of the centre’s facilities. New Park Centre Manager, Allison McDonald-Hughes said:

Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of history and culture, offering free access to thousands of events and experiences that celebrate local heritage and community stories.
Taking place on Saturday 12 September 2026 meeting at 11.00 AM in the Cafe Bar at The New Park Centre. The walk will start at 11.30 AM and end at approx. 13.00 PM. Places on the walk are limited so advance booking is essential. Donations towards the Centre’s Raise The Roof appeal can be made on site on the day.
