A One-Off Picasso Show Supporting the Heart of Our Community

Flamenco performance is not only a celebration of one of the world’s most influential artists, but also a benefit concert in support of our RAISE THE ROOF community fundraising appeal.

New Park Centre needs to raise £256,000 to replace its ageing roof. Without this essential work, the future of the building and the many charities, clubs, societies and individuals who rely on it, are at risk.​ But New Park Centre is not just bricks and mortar. It is a place where friendships are formed, families find support, creativity flourishes and lives are enriched every single day. Protecting the roof means protecting the heart of our community.

 

We are incredibly grateful that the acclaimed dancer and choreographer Helena “La Leyenda” who is behind putting on this show, has chosen to support our appeal. Running her Flamenco and ballet classes at New Park, means that she has experienced first-hand the role the centre plays in community life and in supporting the arts in Chichester, so she wanted to find a meaningful way to give back.

Her gift to the centre is a unique performance of the successful touring show Picasso – His Life and Loves; a breath-taking Flamenco biography. The show explores Picasso’s extraordinary life, prolific artistic output and the complex relationships that influenced his work, brought to life through dance, music, poetry and storytelling.

The 90-minute, two-act performance features an international company of dancers, singer, guitarist and narrator, including recorded poetry by Lorca specialist Rosario Serrano, the voice of legendary flamenco singer Fernando Reyes, and the passionate guitar of Tomás de Córdoba.
